Jane's Adventures in Dinner: Oatmeal and Apple Crown Bread

 Oatmeal and Apple Crown Bread
Serves: 8 servings
Ingredients
  • Bread:
  • 1½ cups large flake oats
  • ½ cup each brown and white sugar
  • ½ cup butter
  • 3¾ cup flour
  • 1¼ cup milk
  • 1 T yeast
  • 1 tsp vanilla paste
  • 2 eggs
  • Filling:
  • 1 cup chopped apple
  • ½ cup each oats, butter and brown sugar
  • ½ tsp cinnamon
  • Topping:
  • 1 T of oatmeal
Instructions
  1. Rub first, four ingredients together. Make a well in the centre and add rest of ingredients. Mix and knead on floured surface until smooth. Cover and let rise double.
  2. roll out to ½ inch thick and divided into two.
  3. Mix filling together and place in the middle of each half. Pinch together and fold ropes over together. Form into a crown and place on a parchment lined paper. Let rise for 20 minutes, sprinkle with another tablespoon of oatmeal and bake at 350 degrees for 35 minutes or until browned.
  4. NOTE: you can let the dough rise overnight in the fridge and add the filling the next morning.
