WALDORF ASTORIA RED CAKE

WALDORF ASTORIA RED CAKE 
3 tsp. cocoa
1/2 oz. bottle red food coloring
1/2 c. shortening
1 1/2 c. fine sugar
2 eggs
Dash salt
1 tsp. vanilla
2 c. cake flour
1 c. buttermilk
1 tsp. soda
1 tsp. vinegar


Make a paste of food coloring and cocoa in a small bowl and set aside.Cream sugar and Crisco with mixer. Mix eggs, one at a time, beat well after each one. Add vanilla and red paste mix. Mix well after each addition, do not beat too long. Add cake alternately with buttermilk and mix.
In bowl where food coloring was mixed, add soda to vinegar, then add to main mix while foaming. Blend thoroughly and pour into 3 greased and floured cake pans. Bake at 350 degrees for 30 minutes.
