GOLDEN BROWN APPLE DUMPLINGS
2 c. sugar
2 c. water
1/4 tsp. cinnamon
1/4 tsp. nutmeg
1/4 c. butter
6 apples
2 c. enriched flour
1 tsp. salt
2 tsp. baking powder
3/4 c. shortening
1/2 c. milk
Roll dumpling dough 1/4 inch thick. Use just enough flour to avoid sticking. Cut 6 (5 inch) squares. Use ruler as guide. Put a peeled, cored apple on each square. Fill apple center with 1 to 2 tablespoons granulated or brown sugar, and a dash of cinnamon. Dot with 1/2 teaspoon butter. Pinch corners of dough together over apple center. Bake in 350 to 400 degree oven for 35 to 40 minutes.
