Scents of baking are some of the best parts of a holiday season. Cinnamon, apples and oranges are all well-known favorite scents for Christmas, but unless you bake non-stop those smells in the kitchen can come and go. Stovetop potpourri is an ideal solution to keep the house smelling delicious and fragrant for the holidays. Packaging up the potpourri to give out to friends and family is also an economical and thoughtful gift. Ingredients needed for stovetop potpourri can be found in any grocery store. How you package them depends on your creativity and your budget.

Instructions

      Add eight cinnamon sticks, 1/2 teaspoon of dried orange peel, 1 tablespoon whole cloves, 2 tablespoon whole allspice and four whole nutmegs to a clear cellophane bag purchased from a craft store. Twist the top of the bag to seal temporarily. Repeat this process for as many bags of potpourri you wish to create.

      Write the instructions for using the stovetop potpourri on a small piece of cardstock. Instructions should include adding 3 tablespoons of the potpourri to 2 cups of water, which is then simmered on low heat. The fragrance will last about two hours.

      Cut a decorative edge on the cardstock with scrapbooking scissors and punch a hole in the upper left corner.

      Thread the ribbon through the punched hole on the cardstock and then tie it around the cellophane bag.
