Cocktails

From Colleen Graham, your Guide to Cocktails
I have two announcements this week. First, it's time to reveal the winners of this year's Readers' Choice Awards... very interesting. Let's see what you think about the results.

Agenda item two: April's cocktail contest is now open and I won't lie, I expect great things from everyone. In the spirit of that theme you will also find some great fruity cocktails scattered throughout this edition.

I hope you enjoy, Cheers!

About.com Readers' Choice AwardsThe results are in and we have winners in the 2014 About.com Readers' Choice Awards.
Over the last two months readers have been nominating and voting for their favorite distilled spirits in 10 categories and today I get to announce the winning brands. It is an interesting mix and it is apparent that these brands (some of which are relatively unknown) have a strong following and loyal fans. This may be an indication that they're something to try if you haven't already.
Find out who won and get a great cocktail for each...

New Cocktail Contest: Fruit Cocktails
Yellow BirdA new cocktail contest is now open and it's an easy one. It is Fruit Cocktails and it should be one that many of us have a number of recipes for. The only catch is that fruit be a main component of the drink, though how you get that fruit flavor is up to you. Submit your fruit cocktail here...

Apricot Cocktails
Hennessy Black Apricot SunrayFrom apricot brandies and liqueurs to apricot nectar, there are a few cocktails that rely on this sweet fruit's flavor. The drinks include the classic Charlie Chaplin (brandy) and modern recipes like the Apricot Sunray (liqueur, nectar, and fresh apricot - pictured). Though not one of the most used fruits in cocktails today, when it is there, it is usually a very good thing. Browse apricot cocktails...
