The taste of Walnut Bread is enhanced by the flavor of freshly ground nutmeg.

Prep Time: 20 minutes

Cook Time: 1 hour

Total Time: 1 hour, 20 minutes

Ingredients:

  • 2 1/2 cups flour
  • 1 cup sugar
  • 3 1/2 teaspoons baking powder
  • 2 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 2 teaspoons freshly grated nutmeg
  • ----
  • 1 egg
  • 1-1/4 cups milk
  • 1/4 Cup vegetable oil
  • ----
  • 1/2 cup walnuts, chopped and lightly toasted

Preparation:

Preheat oven to 350 degrees F (325 degrees F. if dark or glass pan) Grease bottom only of 9x5-inch loaf pan with shortening. In a large bowl, combine 1 set of ingredients with wire whisk. In medium bowl, whisk together second set of ingredients. Stir wet into dry just until ingredients are moist. Stir in walnuts. Carefully pour into pan.

Bake 50 to 60 minutes or until toothpick inserted in center comes out clean. Cool bread in pan 10 minutes. Loosen sides of bread from pan; remove from pan to cooling rack. Cool completely. This bread, like most other quick breads, tastes better the next day.
