Buttermilk adds great flavor and richness to this custard pie. Use a frozen or homemade pie pastry for this delicious buttermilk pie.

Yield: Makes 1 Pie

Ingredients:

  • 4 large eggs
  • 3/4 cup granulated sugar
  • 3 tablespoons all-purpose flour
  • 1 1/2 cups buttermilk
  • 1/4 cup melted butter
  • 2 teaspoons vanilla extract
  • 1 unbaked 9-inch pie shell
  • nutmeg

Preparation:

Heat the oven to 375°.
In a large mixing bowl, beat the eggs and sugar for about 5 minutes, until lemon colored. Beat in the flour. With the mixer on low speed, beat in the buttermilk, melted butter, and vanilla.
Pour the mixture into the pie crust and put in the oven. Sprinkle the top with nutmeg. Place a pan or foil on the rack under the pie to catch any spills. Bake for 20 minutes. Reduce heat to 325° and bake for 20 to 25 minutes longer, until pie is set.
Delicious topped with whipped cream.
Serves 8.
